The Towerer

by

Dear Towerer, your task will be to clear a tower full of enemies that look like geometric shapes.   Survive in the test chambers and you may be rewarded for your work after you get to the top of the tower.   Each step will cause you even more pain... but we believe you can do it and take on the challenge, else you will be... DEAD.   And remember... don't miss... even though the ammunition is unlimited, try not to die.   Good luck and keep your head up, don't look down, because... why would you?   Features:

  • Rogue-like, permanent death/randomly picked levels from the pool created by us. We recommend playing multiple times.
  • Random bosses.
  • Ability to dash, good for avoiding traps, bullets and also enemies themselves.
  • Polished, well-designed linear experience.
  • Change system for weapons (pick from two, dispose last one) after each level up.
  • Items which give your character specific buffs and debuffs.
  • Different enemies, with different AI behaviours.

Game Graphics Mechanics
Love the look of lasers. Health upgrade (the one that gives you new container) is pretty useless, because it doesn't give you the hitpoint (or I just lost it the second I got it). Some "higher" guns are just downgrades (the one that shoots in bursts, and the another one that you can choose with it), couldn't really feel that I have passives, levels are kinda meh, sound effects are okay, only the menu music I didn't really like.

Hey, ZbyszekKielbasa!
What do you mean by health upgrade? Do you mean passive item from "Choose an item" menu or perhaps collectable item?
Yeah, we need to work more on "higher level" guns, this is on our to-do list right now.
Passive items are more feelable in the second and last chapter (for example, the Vampire Module sometimes can save your life).

Hey CYBEREVOLVER_STUDIOS! Congrats on the full release.

Feedback on game as a full release:
Options menu needs work-changing master sound volume flashes the options menu really badly.
I disliked the screen fuzziness effect when you're on 1 HP. The game definetely needs something to visually indicate you're almost dead, but the fuzziness was a bit off putting for me.
I don't think there's much 'hooky'/unique about the game. It plays well-enough, but I tested it and felt no desire to keep playing after doing so.

Re core mechanics:
Not sure if I liked dash being in movement direction rather than mouse direction. IMO the player's eyes are where the mouse is as they're watching the enemy they're shooting, so it feels a bit weird to dash in another direction. But I dunno I think this is subjective, and I don't play many of these type of bullet hell-esque games so...what did other testers think?
I didn't realise for a while that player has limited magazine size/needs to reload because reload time was so small. Maybe consider making reload time bigger (so player actually forced to play around it) or removing it altogether, as is it's basically pointless. Personally I'd also prefer ammo to be on the bottom-right of screen not bottom-left; I could be wrong, it just feels closer to some FPS games like COD.
If player is moving around, shooting enemies, and presses R, there's no visual indication player is reloading except for in the bottom-left of the screen (the circle around the gun). This means if you're watching anywhere else (your character/enemies/etc) and you press R, it looks like nothing happens, which feels bad. For context, FPS games usually show a reloading animation so player knows they're reloading. If you don't want to do that, consider finding another solution.
Also weird that player has unlimited ammo in total ammo pool; like, that's ok mechanic-wise, but feels weird to display it. It's like displaying you have infinite jumping energy in a platformer-just feels pointless and adds visual clutter. If it's just the starter gun that has infinite ammo that's fine, otherwise it seems like a problem.

Hope that's useful, pls give feedback for my project :)

Hey, Hobmo.
Thanks a lot for your feedback!

The options menu is definitely on our list to fix. Screen fuzziness is related to the game's story itself (we don't want to spoil anything).
Did you get to the ending?

Yes, the option to dash towards the mouse position is in our list and will appear in the next update with the ability to change in the Options menu.
As for the reload time, we need to think about it. The UI position and the scale will probably be another option in the Options soon.

The reload animation may indeed be important, but you also have the sound of reloading.

We decided to keep unlimited ammo mark because some players would not know what's going on with it and that would create questions like: "Is ammo infinite?".

Thanks again for your feedback,

Level Design Story/Writing/Dialogue
Love that the levels are different every try, makes it that you want to play a few times to play all levels. Also like that there are bosses.

I would love it if the game had a little lore behind it. Doesn't have to be a massive story. Maybe just something that says why you might be there, trying to kill everyone and where to you might be heading? I don't know, just my opinion.

Hi, xHandre!
Thanks a lot for playing the game.

The game has indeed a little lore behind it, but you need to get to the ending.
Without any spoilers... we only assure you that it is really worth to get to the game's ending and see this for yourself ;)

Thanks again,
